Experiment Reflection + Pictures

Reflection 1:

It was our first lesson at the lab. We had not gotten our materials yet, so we spent our time finalising our proposal document. We were called into the preparation room to confirm our materials needed and were told that we would receive them the next lesson. Although we did not do much, we learnt that planning is vital.

Reflection 2:

We had gotten most of our materials, but we were still unprepared as later on we had requested for more materials like the vernier callipers. We started by making the box needed for our experiment. We made sure to follow the safety procedure; however, one of us had almost cut himself.
We learnt that we have to be safe and work carefully.

Reflection 3:

We needed a penknife for cutting our materials. Many people had brought their penknife for their experiments, and we had borrowed our friend's penknife. However, it was against the code of conduct and lab safety rules. From this event, we learnt that we should always get the teacher's permission when using dangerous apparatus.

Reflection 4:

We managed to get some other materials and started cutting them.
For one material, the aluminium foil, we could not just stack it to reach the right thickness. We first tried crushing the aluminium foil and taping it together. However, there was too much tape which would affect the results, so we had to start over. We decided to start over and used a layer of aluminium to wrap around the aluminium bits and successfully made it. We learnt that we should never give up and that we should always try our best.

Reflection 5:

During one of our lessons, one of our members were fooling around with some tape and stuck it on a classmates face. He also was talking with other groups instead of paying attention. After getting reprimanded by Mr Lim, we learnt that we should not bother other groups and to mind our own business.

Reflection 6:

We had to cut a block of wood as one of our materials, but we could not cut it with a regular pen knife in school. After a few attempts, We decided that one of the members should bring the block of wood home and use a saw to cut it. The saw was hard to operate and was very dangerous. So with parents supervision and help, we managed to cut the wood into the right size safely. We learnt that we should be careful and always have parents supervision when doing dangerous things.

Reflection 7:

During this lesson, we caught up on some reflections while one of our members remade our box, which we would use for the experiment as we had a mistake in our original one.
We learnt that we should not procrastinate in doing our refections as they are vital.

Reflection 8:

After completing the box, we only had to make one last material before we could start experimenting the next week. We only needed a cotton layer and spent our time planning what we would be doing for the experiment. We learnt to use our free time usefully.

Reflection 9:

We spent this time making a hole in the box for the decibel sound level meter so that we could record the sound. We had to use a penknife to cut the hole.

Reflection 10:

We brought the cotton shirts to school today. For the cotton, we had some trouble because we could not cut it with the penknife and in the end, had to use scissors for it. After that, we had to make the cotton harder because it will fall when we use it for testing. We had to put a cardboard frame around it.

Reflection 11:

The calibration of the digital sound level meter was off, so we had to adjust it so that all the results would not be affected by it. However, we did not have a calibrator so we had to calibrate it manually. We learnt the importance of calibrating devices for experiments.

Reflection 12:

Today, we were finished with the preparation of the experiment and started the experimentation. The frequency of the sound produced was 2,000 Hz. At the start, we took a while to set up the experiment. This was because we had to find a quiet room to do the experiment so there would be no background noise which would affect our experiment. In the end, our teacher, Mr Lim, found a room for us and we managed to finish the experiment.
